Ministry of Agrarian Policy forecasts 2006 sunflower sown areas will shorten by 0.6 million ha, down to 3.1 million ha

Ministry of Agrarian Policy forecasts
this spring agrarians will sow sunflower at 3.1 million ha (down 0.6 million ha against 2005), reported Ministry of Agrarian Policy press-service.
It is to be reminded, in 2005 agrarians had sown sunflower at 3.74 million ha (incl. agricultural companies at 2.9 million ha, individual economies at 0.79 million ha).
2005 sunseeds crop had grown to 4.706 million tons (in terms of weight after additional processing), up 1.656 million tons (+ 54.3%) against 2004.
As to State Statistics Committee, in 2005 sunflower was harvested at 3.689.100 ha (up as of 3.427.000 ha in 2004); 2005 sunseeds average yield equaled to 1.28t/ha (up against 0.89t/ha in 2004).
Domestic agrarians are actively growing sunflower due to considering it one of most liquid crops.
