Ban Ki-moon says he must be “diplomatic” over his football fan status
18.06.2014 08:02 "Agro Perspectiva" (Kyiv) —
The United Nations Secretary-General, Ban Ki-moon, has said that his ’heart may beat faster’ when his home team South Korea play in the World Cup, but he says that, as head of the UN, it’s very important that he remains impartial, UN Radio reports.
When asked if he supports the South Korean team at a press conference in Geneva, Ban Ki-moon hinted at where his loyalties truly lie:
«I’m supporting all the teams who are participating in the World Cup! You should know, at the same time, that when the Korean team is competing with any other team, starting with Russia today, you may expect that my heart may beat much faster than normal time. Just to keep my neutrality I decided not to watch the game and I will get the report from my staff early tomorrow morning,» Mr. Ban says.
He wished all the best to all of the teams taking part in Brazil and said that sport has an extraordinary power to spontaneously unite the people.
