28.03.2014 17:12 "Agro Perspectiva" (Kyiv) —
"The United Nations’ support for the territorial integrity of Ukraine is very important for our country," Verkhovna Rada Chairman and Interim President Oleksandr Turchynov said in parliament on Friday, commenting on the resolution passed the day before by the UN General Assembly, NRCU reports.
The resolution deemed as unlawful the March 16th referendum in Crimea and condemned the annexation of Crimea by Russia. 100 members of the General Assembly voted for the resolution, 11 voted against it and 58 abstained. «Yesterday was a very important day for Ukraine. The overwhelming majority of nations fully supported Ukraine, condemned the Russian aggression, and demanded to free the occupied Ukrainian territory,» Turchynov said, adding that the UN Security Council would consider the situation in Ukraine on Friday. So far, each of the Security Council’s resolutions on Ukraine has been blocked by Russia.
At 2 p.m. Friday, Turchynov met with special OSCE mission coordinator Joao Soares and head of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly election observation mission Makis Voridis to discuss the situation in Ukraine and preparations for the early presidential election scheduled for May 25th.
