Ukraine harmonizes over 250 technical standards in food industry with EU requirements

Ukraine has brought over 250 standards in food safety in line with European law, NRCU says referring to the First Deputy Agricultural Minister Ivan Bisiuk report at a Thursday conference.
As to Bisiuk, over the next three years Ukraine is to validate 62 standards and five regulations regarding agriculture every year in line with the European requirements. The official reported that a draft law on amendments to Ukrainian laws on food safety should be passed for further harmonization of the country’s legislation with the European norms. He also said that one state agency should be responsible for the quality and safety of food in the country. At present, several agencies are responsible, including the State Veterinary and Biosecurity Service, the Sanitary Epidemiological Service, and the State Inspectorate for Protection of Consumer Rights.
