"In order to strengthen the positions of Ukraine as one of the largest grain exporters in the world the Government draws investments for building of new terminals in ports. All that creates new workplaces, improves logistics and decreases losses of grain in the process of handling. We are holding talks concerning investments’ further drawing," Vice Prime Minister Olexandr Vilkul said today in Odessa port in the course of opening of Androsiv mall which is the first turn of the new largest grain handling complex in the Black Sea basin, Government Portal reports. Investments into creation of the complex amount to around UAH 1 bln.
Olexandr Vilkul noted that Ukraine is one of the six countries that form the global grain market. This year a record harvest has been gathered: around 60 mln tons. The experts of the branch forecast growth of the gross yield of grain up to 80 mln tons in the nearest 5 years. That’s why peculiar attention is paid to increase of throughput of Ukrainian ports which handle over 90% of bulk agricultural export.
Creating of new logistic chains will also facilitate the development of export potential of participants of the grain pool between Ukraine, the Russian Federation and Kazakhstan.
Building of a new grain terminal is a joint investment project of Administration of sea ports of Ukraine, Odessa sea port and joint Ukrainian-British company Brooklyn-Kyiv and is realized in three stages.
On the first stage terminal capacity for grain storage makes up 70 thousand tons. After completion the complex will consist of 33 containers for 241 thousand tons of short-term storing for loading grain. The length of the berth is 254 meters and depth near the berth wall is 13.5 meters. It will afford to load grain on the Panamax class vessels with the carrying capacity of 60 thousand tons.
The designed capacity of the complex will afford to preserve and handle up to 4 mln tons of grain a year. Total cost of the project which is realized in the frames of the state and private partnership is USD 125 mln where USD 95 mln is investors’ funds. In the course of realization of the project there will be set up around 300 new workplaces.
«Ukraine’s ports have huge investment attractiveness. Before construction works there was held a huge preparation activity in studying world experience and analogous terminals on the Black Sea. And we have received a serious support of the Government,» director general of Brooklyn-Kyiv Yuriy Gubankov said.
The project of the new grain handling complex in Odessa sea port underwent expertise by the EBRD and received high marks as highly technological, ecological and energy-effective.
The same day Olexandr Vilkul held a meeting to discuss the strategy of the development of the Ukrainian port branch.
