14.10.2013 10:43 "Agro Perspectiva" (Kyiv) —
Prime Minister Mykola Azarov plans to visit Kaluga, Russia on October 15th; he and his Russian counterpart Dmitry Medvedev will co-chair the 10th session of the Economic Cooperation Committee of the Ukraine-Russia Interstate Commission, NRCU reports referring to the Cabinets press service.
Earlier, Azarov told Russian reporters that the commission would discuss bilateral trade, business, investment, and energy cooperation as well as joint projects in the aerospace and nuclear power industries. He said he had «high hopes for the meeting with his Russian counterpart and members of the Russian government.» «We expect the agreements that we reached more than three years ago with the then Prime Minister Vladimir Putin to be finally implemented in full,» Azarov said. According to him, the Ukrainian leadership wants to convince the member countries of the Russia-Belarus-Kazakhstan Customs Union Ukraines political association and free trade with the EU will benefit both the Ukrainian and Russian economies and will create incentives for their modernization. «It is wrong to juxtapose Ukraines cooperation with the Customs Union and its cooperation with the EU. The free trade agreements with both the CIS and the EU are based on WTO principles and rules, and they cannot contradict each other. Nothing prevents us from cooperating within both legal frameworks,» Azarov said. He said that before signing the Association Agreement with the European Union, Ukraine would hold intergovernmental consultations with Russia, and then trilateral consultations with the European partners.
