Ukrainian President: There is certain optimism that current composition of European Parliament will ratify Association Agreement

The Ukrainian President hopes that the current composition of the European Parliament will take part in ratification of the Association Agreement between Ukraine and the EU. It was stated by Viktor Yanukovych in the course of the last week meeting with delegation of political group of the European Parliament «Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe», President Viktor Yanukovych Press Office reports.
«We have certain optimism that the given composition of the European Parliament will make this historical step jointly with Ukraine,» the Head of State said.
The President expressed hope that the visit of the representatives of the European Parliament to Ukraine would become another opportunity to note positive changes in our country in the context of preparations to the summit in Vilnius.
«Contacts with the European Parliament are extremely important for us. We understand that the mechanism of relations between Ukraine and the EU will substantially depend on the position of the European Parliament,» the President noted.
«Ukraine has good relations with „Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe» at the level of party contacts and at the state level. Such dialogue is essential," the Head of State added.
Viktor Yanukovych also drew attention to the unity of Ukrainian authorities and opposition around the European aspirations of Ukraine. «European choice of Ukraine promotes this unity,» he said.
«We also clearly understand that it is very important for the position of the European Parliament on the signing and temporary application of the Association Agreement to be reflected in the resolution of the European Parliament,» the Head of State added.
In her turn, foreign policy coordinator of the political group «Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe», deputy of the European Parliament from Belgium Annemie Neyts-Uyttebroeck noted that the delegation of the political group had visited Ukraine before the summit in Vilnius in order to evaluate the situation and make an objective conclusion regarding the decision to be made by the European Parliament.
«We agree with the fact that Ukraine conducts great changes not only in the sphere of the economy and politics, but also in the election legislation and judicial reform,» she said.
