Boiko: It’s more advantageous to buy gas from Europe than Russia
29.04.2013 12:51 "Agro Perspectiva" (Kyiv) —
Ukraine warned Russia’s Gazprom that it is going to minimize the volume of natural gas purchases under extremely disadvantageous contract, signed by the previous government, and to increase the volume of purchases from other sources, in particular from Europe, at more favorable prices, vice Prime Minister of Ukraine Yuri Boiko said in an interview to Inter TV channel, ForUm reports.
«The more we buy gas from other sources, the less we buy it under the contract signed by the previous government, which practically prevents the state economy from developing. We immediately warned the Russian colleagues that we will increase European gas purchases, given that the European gas is cheaper for us today. There are no secrets, we clearly told them,» Boiko noted.
He added that the gas market in Ukraine is liberalized in accordance with the requirements of the European Energy Community, and a variety of vendors can work on it.
«We get cheaper gas, than under the contract with Gazprom, so the outflow of funds from the state is less, and it’s good for the economy,» Boiko concluded.
