Ukrainian dairy market

Within reporting week Ukrainian domestic market dairy products’ sales have slightly grown against previous week. It is to be admitted, all purchase/sale contracts were concluded maintaining a peg with the corresponding US$ export prices (since UAH/US$ exchange rate within this week was significantly fluctuating - what resulted in UAH domestic market prices being very volatile).
However, it is to be admitted, within this week purchasers have returned to Ukrainian domestic market - what occurred mainly thanks to UAH/US$ exchange rate slight growth (interbank exchange rate has demonstrated an average 27.9% weekly growth). Besides, another reason explaining purchasers returning is that they have become still more certain of dairy products’ export shipments being priority direction for them to follow. In fact, experts admit Ukrainian producers have considerably reduced their unsold dairy products’ reserves within last 2 weeks.
At same time, within this week Ukrainian dairy products’ US$ export market prices were becoming still more pressed down by EU countries’ domestic raw milk output growth and EUR/US$ exchange rate decline.
As of this week, Ukrainian domestic market SMP prices were UAH48–55 per kg (down 0.96% against previous week/up 13.66% as of last month similar). Experts admit domestic market SMP prices were pressed by UAH/US$ exchange rate growth and expectations for domestic raw milk output seasonal boost.
At same time, export market prices have declined to US$1,800–1,950 per MT (down 2.60% against previous week/down 1.64% as of last month similar). Experts admit export market SMP prices were pressed by expectations for EU countries’ SMP growth and EUR/US$ exchange rate decline. Besides, export market SMP prices were additionally pressed by traders (due to prospects of EU countries’ raw milk output quota cancelling).
In meanwhile, within this week Ukrainian domestic market WMP prices remained UAH53–58 per kg (same as within previous week); export market prices were US$2,600–2,800 per MT (unchanged as of previous week).
Within reporting week there were no WMP sales on Ukrainian domestic/export markets.
As of this week, Ukrainian companies were producing WMP mainly for their own dairy products’ output.
Within reporting week Ukrainian inner market block butter (72.5% fat, DSTU) prices have grown to UAH50–62 per kg (up 10.89% against previous week/up 23.76% against last month similar).
Within this week Ukrainian inner market butter purchasers’ activity has slightly grown against previous week (as purchasers understood current UAH/US$ exchange rate didn’t promise any butter prices’ decline).
It is to be admitted, within this week Ukrainian butter producers were mainly raising their export market sales (having had slightly declined their export sale prices to assure higher competitive ability).
In meanwhile, this week Ukrainian external market block butter (72.5% fat, DSTU) prices have sagged to US$2,500–2,700 per MT (down 1.89% as of last week/down 8.57% against previous week).
Within reporting week Ukrainian domestic market cheese prices ranged within UAH65–75 per kg (same as within previous week/up 9.38% against last month similar); export market prices have declined to US$3,400–4,200 per MT (down 5.0% against previous week/down 6.75% as of last month similar).
Within this week Ukrainian domestic market cheese demand was low.
It is to be admitted, within this week Ukrainian cheese producers urged country trade networks to boost their cheese purchase prices - but trade networks refused as country population purchasing capacity remained slack.
As earlier, within this week Ukrainian domestic market cheese prices were pressed down by EU-made highly competitive cheese.
Within reporting week Ukrainian domestic market casein prices ranged within UAH112–118 per kg (unchanged against previous week/up 6.98% against last month similar); export market prices were US$5,800–6,000 per MT (unchanged as of previous week/down 0.42% as of previous month similar).
As earlier, within this week Ukrainian domestic/export markets’ casein offer remained very slack, with domestic/export markets’ sales being zero low due to seasonality factor.
As of this week, Ukrainian domestic market demineralized whey prices were UAH18,00–20,00 per kg (up 44.49% against previous week, but down 53.38% as of last month similar); export market prices have declined to US$630–700 per MT (down 2.21% against previous week/down 4.32% as of last month similar).
This week Ukrainian domestic market classic whey prices have grown to UAH16,00–18,00 per kg (up 41.67% against previous week/down 51.45% against previous month similar); export market prices have reduced to US$540–600 per MT (down 0.87% as of last week/down 4.00% as of last month similar).
It is to be admitted, Ukrainian producers say their warehouses’ whey reserves have sharply fallen within last 2 weeks due to high export market shipments.
In meanwhile, within this week Ukrainian domestic market whey demand remained rather low due to country domestic consumption decline (caused by east regions’ military clashes, Crimea separation and population paying capacity lowing) as well as domestic market whey prices’ growth.
In meanwhile, this week Ukrainian inner market GOST canned milk prices remained unchanged against previous week: UAH10,5–11,8 per can (380 gr).
