Cooperation with Shell to be fruitful, Stavytsky says

Cooperation with Shell Company in shale gas production in the next five years would allow Ukraine to meet its needs in blue fuel, energy and coal industry minister of Ukraine Eduard Stavytsky told a briefing, ForUm correspondent reports.
«According to the balance of 2012, Ukraine consumes 45–46 billion cubic meters of gas. Domestic production is about 20 billion cubic meters per year … We will be able to double production only with the help of Yuzivske field,» the minister said, adding that in the near future Ukraine is going to sign a contract for Olesske field and Skyfske field of the Black Sea shelf.
As for the environmental component, Stavytsky assured that shale gas production is completely safe. «Thank God, there has been not a single accident during production of unconventional gas in the world, with more than a million wells drilled,» the minister said and added that the Shell Company has assumed all environmental liabilities.
