Cabinet Allocates UAH 30 Million In Compensation To Farmers For Perished Winter Crops
10.04.2003 "Agro Perspectiva" (Kyiv) - By a 31 March resolution the Cabinet of Ministers has allocated UAH 30 million in financial aid from the reserve fund to farmers after a great quantity of winter crops perished due to unfavorable weather conditions. Specifically, the government intends to partially compensate the bank’s interest rate on loans taken by farmers for spring field campaign. As Ukrainian News earlier reported, the Ministry of Agricultural Policy announced that 43% of grain winter crops (3.4 million hectares) have perished due to unfavorable weather conditions. Farmers have sowed 8.4 million hectares of winter crops to be harvested in 2003, including 6.749 million hectares under wheat, 0.715 million hectares under barley, 0.55 million hectares under rye, and 0.111 million hectares under rape.
