For the first 9 months of 2012, the trade turnover of agricultural products between Ukraine and Lebanon has reached 134.1 million dollars, deputy agrarian policy and food minister of Ukraine Oleksandr Sen said during the meeting with the agriculture minister of the Republic of Lebanon Hussein Haj Hassan on November 29, ForUm reports referring to the Agrarian Policy Ministry press service.
«The basis of bilateral relations in the field of agriculture between Ukraine and the Republic of Lebanon is a trade and economic cooperation, which is now being actively developed. In 2012, the trade of agricultural products between Ukraine and Lebanon has reached 134.1 million dollars. In particular, Ukraine has exported to Lebanon the agricultural products worth 132 million dollars, which is 35.8 million more than in 2011,» Sen said.
The deputy minister noted that cereal crops are a significant share of exports, amounting to $ 90 million for 9 months of 2012. Sen also noted that Ukraine is interested in increasing grain exports to Lebanon and offered to expand trade in supply of livestock products, sunflower oil and confectionery in Lebanon. In addition, Ukraine is planning to deepen the cooperation with Lebanon in the field of growing crops.
In turn, the agriculture minister of the Republic of Lebanon noted that trade is an important aspect of cooperation between the countries and agricultural products have a significant share in trade. He noted that the trade balance is positive for Ukraine.
«I agree that it is necessary to speed up the signing of the necessary documents for greater cooperation between Ukraine and Lebanon. We have already sent required documents to the relevant authorities of our country. We hope that such arrangements will intensify our cooperation,» Hussein Haj Hassan said.
The parties agreed not only to further developing trade relations between the two countries, but also help to strengthen the exchange of information in the veterinary and plant quarantine to improve cooperation conditions.
