It is offered to Ukrainian Parliament to cancel the import duty of 1.2 EUR/kgs for seed of peas
14.03.2003 "Agro Perspectiva" (Kyiv) - Deputy of the Ukrainian Parliament Serghiy Tereschuk has offered to the parliament to cancel the import duty of 1.2 EUR/kg for the sowing material of peas with the purpose of maintenance of agrarians by seed of this crop and for the development of the production of leguminous crops. According to the bill, which is registered in Ukrainian parliament, the deputy predicts, that the import volumes of seed will be increased up to 3 ths MT annually in case of the cancellation of restrictions of sowing material import and the areas under peas can be increased up to 600 ths Ha in 2003, thus the crop can amount to 1.3 mn MT. It is noticed in explanatory slip to the project of the law, that the initiative of the deputy is stipulated by the decrease of the areas and production of peas in Ukraine and great demand for this culture at the external markets, in particular in France. Also there is indicated in the slip to the project, that the import of the sowing material of peas has reached 287.6 MT (0.165 mn.USD) per the last two years. The Ministry of Agrarian Policy predicts the increase of the sown area of leguminous crops by 200% or 0.92 mn.Hà up to 1.38 mn. Ha in 2003 in comparison with 2002 in the connection with expected large re-seeding of the winter crops in the spring. In 2002 agrarians have sown 0.46 mn. Ha of leguminous crops. They increased sown area by 15.8% in 2002 in comparison with 2001.
