Ukrtransgaz cuts natural gas imports by 55% in H1, 2012

Ukrtransgaz, a subsidiary of Ukraines state oil and gas company Naftogaz, reduced imports of Russian natural gas by 55% in the first half of 2012, the subsidiarys press service has reported.
«In the first six months of 2012, Ukrtransgaz reduced imports of Russian natural gas to 16 billion cubic meters, which was 55% less than in the same period last year,» reads the statement. The transit of natural gas through Ukraine to Western European countries has amounted to 43 billion cubic meters since the beginning of 2012. Natural gas transit to CIS countries remains at a level of 1.6 billion cubic meters. In the first half of 2012, Ukrainian consumers received nearly 28 billion cubic meters of natural gas, which was 4% less than in the same period last year. In June 2012, this figure was 1.9 billion cubic meters, or 4% less than in June 2011.
