Ukraine cuts natural gas consumption by 4.7% in four months

Natural gas consumption in Ukraine in January-April 2012 fell by 4.7% compared to the same period in 2011, to 26.4 billion cubic meters, according to the statistical figures of the Ukrainian Energy and Coal Industry Ministry.
The domestic production of natural gas in January-April 2012 amounted to 6.783 billion cubic meters, which was 1.3% more than in January-April 2011. Of this amount, Naftogaz of Ukraine enterprises extracted 6.086 billion cubic meters of natural gas (a rise of 0.5%). Imports of natural gas in the first four months in 2012 dropped 49.9% compared with January-April 2011, to 10.646 billion cubic meters. In April 2012, Ukraine reduced natural gas consumption by 20.8% compared with April 2011, to 3.475 billion cubic meters. At the same time, domestic production amounted to 1.663 billion cubic meters, which corresponds to the figure for April 2011, while imports amounted to 2.099 billion cubic meters, which was 36.5% less than in April 2011.
