General Assembly highlights the importance of harmony with nature
19.04.2012 08:02 "Agro Perspectiva" (Kyiv) —
The role of science in sustaining life while protecting the environment is the focus of a General Assembly debate held on this week Wednesday.
The event, entitled Harmony with Nature, has been held in commemoration of International Mother Earth Day.
«Bolivia believes that the regenerative capacity of the planet Earth is a central topic. There cannot be sustainable development if nature does not have the means to recover its creative capacity. Science can help us understand what the limits are and how far we can go. Our delegation believes that the only way to guarantee sustainable development is for Planet Earth to regenerate itself and that it blooms and benefits its inhabitants,» Rafael Archondo, Bolivias deputy ambassador to the UN, says.
International Mother Earth Day is observed annually on 22 April.
It promotes awareness of the interdependence between human beings, other living species, and the planet.
