Ukraine, Jordan agree on close cooperation in agriculture

Following the visit of the Ukrainian delegation headed by President Viktor Yanukovych to the Kingdom of Jordan, agreement was reached on strengthening cooperation in the agricultural sector.
This was announced by the Minister of Agricultural Policy and Food of Ukraine, Mykola Prysiazhniuk, the press service of the ministry reported. «A number of agreements were signed, in particular, regarding the construction of elevator facilities in Jordan, which will make it possible to increase the supply of grain both to that country and to its neighbor-states; it was also agreed to increase the supply of poultry meat and offal,» he said. Prysiazhniuk added that the parties had agreed on cooperation between scientific institutions, in particular in the development of joint programs for the study of hazardous diseases of birds and animals, exchange of breeding material (seeds of vegetables and melons), as well as the introduction of new plant protection technologies. In addition, the agriculture minister said, an agreement was signed on cooperation in plant quarantine, which will help prevent the importation and spread of regulated pests and provide coordination of state phytosanitary measures. The minister reminded of the interest of Ukrainian milk processing enterprises in supplying to the Jordanian market cultured milk foods, spreads, hard cheese, dried milk, canned milk, UHT milk, ice cream, meat, sausage and meat products, canned meat, frozen food and confectionery.
