Extreme weather events expected to increase due to climate change: IPCC
30.03.2012 09:11 "Agro Perspectiva" (Kyiv) —
The frequency and intensity of extreme weather and climate events such as heat waves, floods and droughts is expected to increase worldwide as a result of climate change, according to a new report by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, IPCC.
The report, however, notes that there was little effort to put in place measures to manage the risks associated with climate disasters, despite the wealth of knowledge that already exists.
The IPCC says policies to avoid, prepare for, respond to and recover from the risks of disasters can reduce the impact of extreme weather and climate events and increase the resilience of people exposed to them.
