Ban: Asia's rise is a defining story of our time
22.03.2012 08:16 "Agro Perspectiva" (Kyiv) —
Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has commended Malaysia for the support it has given the UN and asked for even more.
He is in the country as part of a four-nation Asia tour.
At a dinner in his honor, Mr. Ban said Malaysia has come a long way in building up its economy and hopes the new wealth and prosperity will help those less fortunate.
«Asias rise is a defining story of our time. It has reshaped global politics and transformed the economic landscape. It has lifted billions of people from poverty. Malaysia is a model in achieving the Millennium Development Goals. You have achieved most of the targets of the Millennium Development Goals ahead of the target date 2015. This is, again, an exemplary model case.»
The next stop for Mr. Ban will be Singapore followed by his home country, South Korea.
The Secretary-General began his trip in Indonesia at the beginning of the week.
