Private investors agree to cooperate with Greece
12.03.2012 16:12 "Agro Perspectiva" (Kyiv) —
Greece will ask all private investors to take part in the write-off of 105bn euros of its debt, Greek Finance Minister Evangelos Venizelos said in his interview with the US CNBC TV channel.
He said that there was no doubt that the agreement to exchange old Greek bonds for new ones «will be universal».
At the beginning of March, when the term of the agreement with investors was expiring, only 83.5% of private banks consented to voluntarily lose part of their investments. Later, however, Finance Ministers of the Eurozone joined in the pressure on bond-holders.
As a result, the participation of private investors, such as banks and insurance, pension, investment and speculation funds, in the exchange of Greek securities has reached 95.7%.
