Prime Minister says agreement on FTZ in CIS imperfect but "extremely positive" for Ukraine
16.01.2012 19:37 "Agro Perspectiva" (Kyiv) —
Ukrainian Prime Minister Mykola Azarov says the agreement on a free trade zone within the Commonwealth of Independent States is extremely positive for this country, but acknowledges that the document is not perfect. He wrote this on his Facebook page.
«At a press conference after the signing of the agreement on a free trade zone within the Commonwealth, I appreciated it as imperfect. … In general, I once again emphasize that this agreement is extremely positive for this country,» Mykola Azarov said. He explained that the shortcomings of the agreement relate to the existence of the CIS Customs Union of Russia, Kazakhstan and Belarus. «It is clear that these countries want the common trade zone to provide for the possibility of customs-free getting of goods from countries outside the Customs Union. And so the agreement has certain positions that allow the countries of the Customs Union, in the event these countries sustain a significant economic damage, taking certain protective measures after consultation. All this is consistent with WTO rules, and, of course, there is no objection against this. However, it remains to be seen how this will be applied in practice,» the Prime Minister said.
