Ukraine will resume cooperation with IMF when consensus with Russia reached
12.01.2012 16:02 "Agro Perspectiva" (Kyiv) —
If a consensus is made upon the results of the gas talks with Russia, Ukraine will resume cooperation with the International Monetary Fund, Vice-Premier, Minister for Social Policy Serhiy Tihipko said during a briefing at the Cabinet.
«As for our cooperation (with the IMF), the negotiations with Russia on gas are delayed. We managed to introduce at the end of the year new legislation on bankruptcy, which was interesting to the IMF; this week two more bills will be considered, which have also been treated together with IMF experts. Only tariffs will remain. As you know, here we have different positions. We are in talks with Russia and would like to reduce the prices (of gas — Ed.). If this is done, nothing will prevent resumption of the cooperation program with the IMF,» Tihipko said. As reported, Ukraine could not agree with the International Monetary Fund on revising the program of cooperation and allocation of a new tranche of the loan before the question of lowering the price of gas is agreed with Russia. The IMF in July 2010 approved the stand-by cooperation program for more than $15.5 billion, and in 2011 it was ready to provide Kyiv quarterly with $1.5 billion to support reforms.
