Russia not raising political demands in gas negotiations with Ukraine
30.12.2011 10:12 "Agro Perspectiva" (Kyiv) —
The Russian side is not raising any political demands in negotiations with Ukraine on a revision of the gas agreements. This was stated on Ukrainian television by Ukraine’s Prime Minister Nikolai Azarov.
«Political demands have not been put forward, and could not have been. We are talking about the economy, about a gas contract, and the Russian leaders are not raising any political issues here,» assured the prime minister.
He said that the talks have centered on the creation of a gas consortium to manage the Ukrainian gas transportation system. Ukraine would like to see this consortium as trilateral with the EU and Russia. «I personally suggested: let the three of us join forces: Russia, Ukraine and the EU, to decide how we ought to build our relationship. Yes, they responded, it’s a good suggestion. But for the time being it has all been nothing but talk,» said the head of the Ukrainian government. Source: ITAR-TASS.
