Bob Geldof calls for political leadership to help Horn of Africa
26.09.2011 08:43 "Agro Perspectiva" (Kyiv) —
The anti-poverty campaigner and musician, Bob Geldof, has blamed what he calls ‘a chronic lack of political’ leadership for the slow response to help the 13 million people affected by drought and famine in the Horn of Africa.
He was speaking at an event held in New York on Saturday to launch a charter supported by a number of organizations to end extreme poverty.
He said the situation in the Horn of Africa is alarming.
«And it is indeed a chronic lack of leadership that sees 13 million fellow sentient, productive, creative dynamic human beings dying again on our television screens. And it’s not as if people turn away. They do not because the individual donations from the countries suffering under the economic crash at the moment are contributing hugely and magnificently still,» recapitulated Geldof.
