Ukraine to preserve grain export duties
06.09.2011 15:31 "Agro Perspectiva" (Kyiv) —
Duties for grain export from Ukraine that led to the fall of shipment volumes will be preserved until the end of 2011, since the government turned down a proposal from the Agrarian Policy and Food Ministry to refuse from the duties.
This was disclosed by Deputy Director of the Ministry’s Market Department Anatoliy Rozgon. «Duties will not be abolished,» he said explaining that «if to abolish, additional consultations with the IMF are needed and it is necessary to look for new sources of budget revenues.» Agrarian Minister Mykola Prysiazhniuk last week proposed the government to abolish the duties making up from 9% to 14% of the customs grain cost, however, the Finance Ministry opposed it. Earlier, due to negative trends of the fall in the grain export volumes, the European Business Association (EBA) approached Prime Minister Mykola Azarov, Vice Premier Andriy Kliuyev and Agriculture Minister Mykola Prysiazhniuk requesting to urgently abolish grain export duties.
