Ministry of Agrarian Policy: 2004 crop’s maize yielding capacity to hit 3.5t/ha

Ministry of Agrarian Policy considers, that this year grain maize’s yielding capacity will reach 3.5t/ha, reported Ministry of Agrarian Policy’s representative. As to him, maize crops are developing satisfactorily by now, despite of their growing having been substantially constrained with cold weather during summer. He didn’t precise earlier made forecast as for this year’s grain maize output. 2003 crop’s maize yielding capacity was 3.4t/ha. 2003 maize crop (harvested at area of 1.987.700 ha) totaled 6.86 million tons (after-processing weight). 2002 maize crop was 4.17 million tons, with harvested area totaling 1.189.000 ha. Reportedly, this year maize was sown at area of 2.563.700 ha, up 298.100 ha (+13.2%) against last year.
