America's Farmers Grow Communities ProjectSM: Growing Rural America — One Community at a Time
26.07.2010 09:19 "Agro Perspectiva" (Kyiv) —
What would you do if you had the opportunity to donate $2,500 to the charity of your choice without using your own money? It’s a no-brainer for many farmers. Thanks to the Monsanto Fund’s America’s Farmers Grow Communities ProjectSM, farmers in select areas of the U.S. are registering for the opportunity to direct money to their favorite community non-profit organizations.
Through the project, eligible farmers in select counties in California, Kansas, Nebraska, North Carolina, Ohio, South Carolina and South Dakota can register to win $2,500 for their favorite non-profit group, including FFA chapters, schools, fire departments or local food pantries.
«It’s simple for farmers who are registering for the opportunity to direct money to their favorite community non-profit organization through Grow Communities,» John Raines, Monsanto customer advocacy lead, said.
Farmers can apply at www.growcommunities.com or by calling 18772673332. The deadline for the program is July 31, 2010, and there is no purchase necessary to enter or win. One winner in each of the eligible counties will be randomly selected, and a total of over $700,000 will be donated.
The America’s Farmers Grow Communities Project is the second round of a pilot program Monsanto Company debuted in January. The initial pilot resulted in more than $450,000 of contributions in local farming communities. Past winners directed contributions to local ag youth organizations such as 4-H and FFA, public libraries, and even a community historical society.
Because of the success of the two pilots, Monsanto Fund will expand the program to include 1,200 counties across 38 states starting August 31, 2010.
«The agricultural community works hard to feed, clothe and provide fuel for our country,» Raines said. «That’s why we want to help grow those communities.»
