India harvests 81 mn T wheat in '09

Indian farmers harvested 80.71 million tonnes of wheat in 2009, marginally lower than an earlier estimate of 80.98 million tonnes, latest government estimates showed on Monday.
India, the worlds second-biggest producer of wheat, grows only one crop in a year, with plantings from October and harvests in March and April.
Rice output in the crop year to June was at 89.13 million tonnes, marginally lower than 89.31 million tonnes.
Output of oilseeds fell to 24.93 million tonnes against 25.41 million tonnes of previous forecast, while that of cane rose to 277.75 million tonnes from 274.66 million tonnes.
