19.07.2010 11:19 "Agro Perspectiva" (Kyiv) —
White maize exports fell last week compared to the week before. SA, the largest producer on the continent, exported 5,653 tonnes of white maize last week compared to 6,730 tonnes the previous week, the South African Grain Information Service (SAGIS) said. SAGIS web site reported that exports of yellow maize were recorded at 2,431 tonnes compared to 1,605 tonnes the week before. SAGIS data shows that Botswana, which produces very little of its own grain, was the largest importer of both white maize at 1,928 tonnes and the yellow maize variety, mainly used for stock feed at 950 tonnes. SAs total maize exports this season have reached 143,884 tonnes. Prices on the Chicago Board of Trade, which local traders monitor to remain competitive in markets which exporters in South Africa and the US compete, ended down.
