Nestlé Nutrition announces Fellowship Programme members

A new Nestlé initiative which aims to train physicians and surgeons in specialised medical nutrition has announced its first Fellowship class.
Led by the Nestlé Nutrition Institute (NNI) and Nestlé HealthCare Nutrition, the Enteral Nutritional Fellowship Programme seeks to transform patient care with intensive training in nutrition therapy at leading medical centres in the US.
The six fellows include Dr Jill R. Cherry-Bukowiec, of the University of Michigan; Dr Bryan R. Collier, of Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, Dr David J. Frantz, of the University of North Carolina School of Medicine; Dr Christy M. Lawson, of the University of Tennessee Medical Center; Dr Craig Munroe, of Stanford University and Dr Vance L. Smith, of Stanford University.
David Yates, Regional Business Head of Nestlé HealthCare Nutrition, believes that the fellowship represents the next generation of physician leaders.
He said: «Their dedication to using enteral nutrition as a key component in the critical care process will not only change the landscape of care, but it will ultimately save lives. We are proud to welcome these candidates to the programme.»
Backed by the American Society for Parental and Enteral Nutrition (ASPEN) and the American Gastroenterological Association (AGA), the year-long course which follows a successful 2009 pilot offers intensive one-to-one guidance and clinical training from renowned experts and leaders in the medical field.
Mentoring and professional support is also provided to encourage participants to publish, identify research interests and participate in international professional meetings.
The Nestlé Nutrition Institute, founded in 2000, supports Nestlé’s commitment to collaborate with health professionals in the area of infant, clinical and performance nutrition to actively participate in the exchange of knowledge and nutrition expertise. Primary activities under the NNI include the sponsorship of workshops, the development of publications & educational tools, and provide scholarships for postgraduate study or training in fields related to health and nutrition.
