South US Farmers Talk Corn
30.03.2010 10:29 "Agro Perspectiva" (Kyiv) —
Agriculture in the Southern U. S. usually brings to mind cotton, sorghum and vegetables among others. And now added to that mix is… corn?
Genuity™ VT Triple PRO™ has been creating a lot of positive buzz in the south, where farmers are choosing the Genuity™ VT Triple PRO™ because of its high yield potential and broad spectrum insect control-particularly that of the corn earworm, which is a significant concern to Southern farmers.
«In the case of the Genuity™ VT Triple PRO™ when you can eliminate that insect’s desire to go in that plant and in that ear of corn it also corrects the introduction of those diseases coming into that plant,» Thosmas DuRant, Gable, South Carolina farmer, said. «The grain quality is so much better- just with the physical eye, not under the microscope, you can tell it’s much better.»
«The corn earworms are a significant pest but before we just kind of put up with them,» Lagrange, North Carolina farmer Scott Wiggins said. «You just didn’t worry about it-hope you have a good year and make plenty of bushels and if everything was alright and if you’re yield average was where you wanted it to be you were happy.»
Luckily, southern famers like Wiggins don’t have to simply tolerate the pests anymore-they’re saying that with the Genuity™ VT Triple PRO™ the pesky worm is no longer as damaging to their crop and they’re seeing yields bigger than ever before.
«We planted Genuity™ VT Triple PRO™ and I could tell that it was a minimum of five bushels, probably a maximum of 1520 above just the standard Bt corn,» Brad Cole, Northeast North Carolina farmer, said. «It just grows better, it’s got a lot more plant vigor, and it stands up to the harsh conditions. And it yields.
The one thing I really noticed about it when it was harvest time was the size of the ear, the size of the kernel, the color of the grain is a lot brighter, it’s shinier, waxier, darker orange color and at the end when we were picking it the tickets were coming back with the test weight and the test weights were 62, 63 pounds, one hopper in one load was 64 pounds, versus the standard 56. You start adding… higher numbers together, and figure you’re adding bushels over a period of time.»
Not only is the Southern U. S. adding corn to its agricultural portfolio, by choosing Genuity™ VT Triple PRO™ the South is seeing a significant reduction in corn earworm damage and bringing in yields that are higher than ever before. And that’s definitely technology farmers say they appreciate.
