Eurocommissioner: while creating “grain pool”, Ukraine must remember about its WTO membership
18.06.2009 12:51 "Agro Perspectiva" (Kyiv) —
After having joined World Trade Organization (WTO),Ukraine must remember about its obligations to WTO as well as WTO demands as it holds any negotiations (in part., targeted at creation of grain pool with Russia/Kazakhstan), reported Mariann Fischer-Boel, Eurocommissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development. “Ukraine is WTO member, while neither Russia nor Kazakhstan belong to this organization. So, I don’t want these negotiations, which are targeted at creation of so called “grain pool,” to cause any troubles to my good friend Mr. Melnyk (i.e. Minister of Agrarian Policy Yuriy Melnyk) within his EU negotiations,” Mariann Fischer-Boel added she can’t give any comments on 3 countries grain union creation as she doesn’t have enough information. “I couldn’t understood whether it would be some virtual structure, or some organization able to make certain influence on grains trade sphere prices formation, or some cartel,” admitted Eurocommissioner. It is to be reminded, within World Grain Forum (Russia) idea was promulgated to form grain pool of Black Sea countries in order to activate their global market grains sales.
