Ukraine uses its agricultural potential for 25%
10.07.2008 08:41 "Agro Perspectiva" (Kyiv) —
As to European experts/World Bank analysts estimation, Ukrainian agricultural potential is used just for 25-30%, reported Ukrainian Agrarian Confederation (UAC) President Leonid Kozachenko on today press-conference. “If Ukraine starts using its agricultural potential for 100%, we will be able to produce in total US$45-50 milliard agricultural products (if calculated in last year basis prices), – what means we will be able to export US$30-40 milliard agricultural products,” declared Kozachenko. “If compared with USA or EU countries, Ukrainian grain crops yielding capacity is 3 times down against USA and 2,5 times down as of EU countries,“ said UAC President. Kozachenko admitted Great Britain last 5 years grain crops average yielding capacity is 6,4 MT per ha (Ukraine – 3,0 MT per ha). However, said Kozachenko, Great Britain agrarians use 16 times up mineral fertilizers against Ukrainian (plants protection means – up 3,5 times). Besides, added UAC President, Great Britain agricultural equipment provision is up 7-10 times against Ukrainian. “That is, if we could raise at least twice up resources we now use for agricultural products output, we would be able to double Ukrainian grains output; certainly, climatic conditions, lands quality and other advantages of domestic agriculture are also to be taken into consideration,” emphasized expert. As to UAC data, today Ukrainian agricultural products gross output is estimated ≈ US$20 milliard.
