UAC warning about negative impact of food articles sale regulation Law
28.05.2008 14:07 "Agro Perspectiva" (Kyiv) —
While speaking on press-conference this year May 26, Ukrainian Agrarian Confederation (UAC) President Leonid Kozachenko has warned about negative influence of Law “About Regulation of Sale of Some Socially Important Food Articles” (adopted by VR) on retail sale. As to Kozachenko, Rada adopted this Law without considering experts opinions or having had discussions with professionals. That, says Kozachenko, “may cause huge problems in Ukraine.” UAC President believes Law will just stimulate inflation instead of curbing it. “We are convinced that if this Law is adopted, technological chain “farmer-processing-shipment-sale” will be totally broken. Thus, instead of reaching food articles cheapening, Cabinet will face a great deal of problems, – as food articles will become more expensive. Moreover, sellers will surely start bringing food articles to shadow market,” declared Kozachenko. It is to be reminded, Verkhovna Rada had adopted Law “About Regulation of Sale of Some Socially Important Food Articles” on May 16, 2008. As to Law, sale price markup for some “socially important” food articles (flour, bread, bakery/macaroni products, groats, meat/dairy products, sault, sugar, sunoil and vegetables) is to be controlled; markup may not exceed 15% of food article producers price/customs value.
