Deputies Symonenko, Tkachenko to impose grains export moratorium
30.11.2007 09:15 "Agro Perspectiva" (Kyiv) —
As to draft Law ¹ 1028 (registered in Verkhovna Rada) about bringing changes into grains market Law, people deputies Petro Symonenko and Oleksandr Tkachenko have proposed to Parliament to introduce grains export moratorium in order to ensure domestic market foods requirements. Deputies are certain moratorium will make it possible to satisfy domestic market food/feed grains needs. However, deputies suggest grains export should be renewed on quoting conditions after domestic market is completely supplied with grains. As to Agro Perspective earlier report, presently companies don’t export grains. As to Agro Perspective, 1.2 mn MT grains export quota is expected to come into effect Dec 31, 2007. However, taking into account Ukrainian grains market traditional Dec/15-Jan/15 lull, it is possible to forecast that export will be resumed since about Feb (on condition if Government doesn’t take any new decision on grains export limiting). Reportedly, 2007 grains crop is possible to total 28 mn MT (in terms of weight after additional processing). 2006 grains crop had declined to 34.3 mn MT. Experts estimate domestic market food grains annual consumption as much as 7 mn MT.
