Grain export down 27.8% to 9.6 million tons in 2008/2007MY

Grain export weakened by 27.8% or 3.7 million tons to 9.6 million tons in 2006/2007 MY against 2005/2006 MY, disclosed Agrarian Minister Yurii Melnyk at the briefing. According to the minister, overall 9.5 million tons of grain were planned for export in 2006/2007 MY. Melnyk believes that after October 1, 2007, grain export will be resumed, but based on the specified balance exclusively. The Cabinet of Ministers has introduced grain export quotas for the period from July 1 though October 1, 2007 to make state and regional grain reserves for 2007/2008 MY. As to Agro Perspectiva earlier report, grain export strengthened by 20% to 13.3 million tons in 2005/2006 MY against 2004/2005 MY.
