Drought killed crops at 650,000 ha

Drought has destroyed various agricultural crops at total 650,000 ha sown areas, reported Agrarian-Industrial Complex Vice Premier Viktor Slauta.
It is to be reminded, Ministry of Agrarian Policy earlier declared crops had been killed at total 500,000 ha.
As to Slauta, soil moisture deficit is presently felt at over 10 mn ha; drought struck areas are characterized with grain crops unoptimal development.
As to experts, 2007 grains crop will be down against initially forecasted due to soil moisture deficit; experts say grains quality is expected to be poor.
As to Agro Perspective earlier report, end May Ministry of Agrarian Policy had forecasted this year grain crops would be harvested at total 14.8 mn ha. Evidently, this forecast will be lowered in next few days.
2006 grains crop totaled 34.3 mn MT (2005 38.015 mn MT).
