Yushchenko summons Cabinet to make Food Reserve urgent grains purchases

Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko has addressed letter to Premier Viktor Yanukovych proposing to urgently purchase necessary grains amount for State Food Reserve in order to assure domestic food market stability, reported President press-service.
As to press-service, President is going to visit Myckolayiv, Kirovograd and Kherson regions on Jun 5 to examine drought struck regions/determine agrarians aid variants.
As to Agro Perspective earlier report, Cabinet had declared plans on 2007 crop 23 mn MT grains purchases to form country 45 months food grains reserves, reporting no details as for grains purchase prices. As to Cabinet, State operators (Agrarian Fund and State Committee for Material Reserves (State Reserve) presently have enough financial means for necessary grains purchases. Besides, Cabinet is going to allocate budgetary finances to assure additional grains purchases.
As to Agro Perspective, as to regions data, drought has destroyed various agricultural crops at total 650,000 ha sown areas.
Meanwhile, Ministry of Agrarian Policy hasn’t so far promulgated 2007 grains crop forecast which would take into account drought consequences.
Earlier, Ministry had forecasted 2007 grains crop would reach 38 mn MT.
2006 grains crop totaled 34.3 mn MT.
Experts estimate Ukrainian internal market food grain annual requirement as much as 7 mn MT.
