Cabinet likely to cancel grains import duty

As to Agrarian-Industrial Complex Vice Premier Viktor Slauta, Cabinet might introduce wheat, rye, maize and barley entry duty zero rate in case if Ukrainian grains import becomes necessary. Slauta said though Ukraine is able to assure internal food grains requirement by means of its own domestic grains production, yet due to current adverse weather conditions it might be necessary to introduce grains import as one of measures to assure country food security. Vice Premier reminded presently zero entry duty is effective for CIS countries grains import shipments. «There is a plan to spread zero entry duty also upon other countries, for instance, USA, Canada or European countries,» admitted Slauta. As to Agro Perspective earlier report, Ministry of Agrarian Policy is convinced this year grain crops should be resown at 0.5 mn ha (as of May 28). Meanwhile, meteorologists don’t forecast any near future rainfalls.
