UAAS researchers: 2007 grains crop might fall to 20-24 mn MT
01.06.2007 13:10 "Agro Perspectiva" (Kyiv) —
Ukrainian Academy of Agrarian Sciences (UAAS) researchers forecast this year country grains crop is possible to shorten to 2024 mn MT due to drought (down against last year 34.3 mn MT), reported UAAS representative.
As to representative, this year agrarians may expect just 20 metric centners per ha grains average yield.
Researchers say 2007 total grains crop potential has been much strengthened by winter grains having lived through favorable autumn/winter period.
As to researchers, soil moisture critical deficit is characteristic only for 9 of Ukrainian total 25 regions; moisture deficit isn’t critical in western, northern and partially eastern regions.
As to Agro Perspective earlier report, Ukrainian Hydrometeorology Center had forecasted this year winter wheat crop would total 1012.5 mn MT.
As to Agro Perspective, Ministry of Agrarian Policy is convinced grain crops are to be resown at 0.5 mn ha (as of May 28); as to Ministry data, presently ≈ 10 mn ha sown areas in 10 regions are affected by soil drought.
