Ukrtsukor forecasts sugar beet crop will fall down to 16 mn MT
30.05.2007 17:03 "Agro Perspectiva" (Kyiv) —
Ukrainian National Sugar Producers Association (UNSPA) Ukrtsukor, which integrates country sugar plants, has forecasted this year Ukrainian sugar beet crop would sink to 15.216 mn MT (in terms of weight after additional processing), down against last year 22.4 mn MT.
«Taking into account situation on country fields, we think this year sugar beet crop will total 15.216 mn MT. It’s a preliminary forecast to be revised,» reported UNSPA representative.
As to representative, expected crop fall is to be motivated mainly with sugar beet sown areas shortening (within this year agrarians have sown sugar beet at total 650,000 ha, thus having practically ended sowing, while 2006 sown areas totaled 815,000 ha).
Representative also said country southern, eastern/central regions sown areas had been negatively affected by continuous drought/dry winds. As to UNSPA data, dust storms made these regions agricultural companies resow crops at ≈ 20,000 ha.
«Situation on southern, eastern/central regions fields is critical,» stressed representative.
As earlier reported, UNSPA Ukrtsukor had forecasted country 2007 sugar beet sown areas would shorten due to domestic sugar market unfavorable prices conjuncture.
As to UNSPA, this MS Ukrainian domestic market sugar prices decline is motivated with offer excess.
2006 beet sugar output totaled ≈ 2.6 mn MT (against domestic market annual consumption ≈ 2 mn MT).
In 2006, Ukrainian agrarians got 22.4 mn MT sugar beet; beet was harvested at 815,000 ha.
