Ministry of Agrarian Policy: due to warm winter, agrarians have to raise pesticides usage up 1,5 times

Ministry of Agrarian Policy forecasts this year country agrarians will apply plants protection means 1,5 times up against last year, reported Yuriy Luzan, Deputy Minister of Agrarian Policy.
As to Luzan, it is too early now to determine how much sown areas are damaged by pest, yet, taking into account research institutions/agrochemical services experts examination results, it is possible to conclude that this year damaged sown areas will be up against previous years due to unfavorable weather conditions (rather warm winter resulting in lots of pests/weeds).
«Plants protection will require additional expenses. As I think, it will be necessary to apply 1,5 times up herbicides and other plants protection means,» declared Deputy Minister.
As to Agro Perspective earlier report, Ministry of Agrarian Policy had forecasted this year winter crops will be resown at 23% of total sown areas.
As to Agro Perspective, in 2007 first quarter Ministry of Agrarian Policy had allotted UAH1.64 milliard budgetary finances for country agricultural programs financing, with over UAH900 mn having been allotted for agricultural development programs.

Agro Perspective (Kyiv) Ministry of Agrarian Policy forecasts this year winter crops will be resown at 23% of total sown areas, reported Yuriy Luzan, Deputy Minister of Agrarian Policy.
«This year winter crops will be resown at very small area, as I think, at 23% of total sown areas,» declared Luzan.
Deputy Minister admitted winter crops condition is good; winter crops have wintered better as in previous 10 years.
As earlier reported Agro Perspective referring to State Statistic Committee data, in 2006 all categories companies had sown winter crops (excl. rape) for grain/green feeds at total 6.981 mn ha, up 12.7% ha against 2005, incl. winter wheat at 5.92 mn ha (up 15.2% as of 2005), winter barley at 617,800 mn ha (up 14.7% as of 2005) and winter rye at 352,200 mn ha (down 7.3% as of 2005).
