Cabinet to temporary restrict give-and-take meat import

Cabinet is going to temporary restrict some kinds give-and-take basis meat resources shipments to Ukraine, reported Yuriy Melnyk, Minister of Agrarian Policy, within all-Ukrainian springtime field works selector meeting.
While speaking on meeting, Minister made it known Ukrainian domestic meat market situation became much complicated due to meat resources purchase prices recent lowering.
Melnyk said cattle purchase prices (as to State Statistic Committee newest data) declined 20% (pigs 30%).
«Experts affirm prices have fallen mainly due to internal market having had been glutted with cheap domestic resources,» admitted Melnyk.
He said within this year Jan-Feb Ukrainian companies had imported in total 29,000 MT meat (incl. 13,000 MT imported up to give-and-take schemes and 14,000 MT on preferential import conditions).
As to Melnyk, in order to regulate country meat market Cabinet has already taken a number of measures (in part., meat/live cattle import licensing introduction) and is now elaborating draft Decree targeted at provisionary limitation of some kinds give-and-take basis meat resources shipments to Ukraine.
Minister admitted presently there are also special mobile groups controlling meat products contraband shipments/customs rules violation.
Melnyk said regions as well must adopt corresponding measures necessary to settle current situation.
