EBRD, Global Environment Facility to allocate US$55.8 million to support Ukrainian bioenergy development

As of this week, while speaking within the official opening of the program ‘Ukraine: Sustainable Innovations within the Chain of Bioenergy Value Creation’, Deputy Head of the EBRD Ukrainian branche Lesya Kuzmenko has told that the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), together with the Global Environment Facility (GEF), will finance a program to support the Ukrainian bioenergy development worth over US$ 50 million, Interfax-Ukraine reports.
«The program is aimed at technologies and systems for collection, storage and processing of the agrobiomass. We are going to mobilize about US$50 million for its implementation,» she said.
It is to be admitted, most of these funds (about US$50 million) will be used to assure crediting of the Ukrainian bioenergy projects within the domestic private sector, and another US$3.5 million - for incentive grants.
The remaining funds are planned to be directed to information support and educational projects within bioenergy sphere.
