29.08.2019 16:52 "Agro Perspectiva" (Kyiv) —
As of now, an international conference TICAD 7 is held (this year Aug 28 30) within Yokohama (Japan), FAO reports.
It is to be admitted, TICAD (Tokyo International Conference on African Development) is an international conference led by the Japanese government and co-sponsored by the United Nations, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the African Union Commission (AUC) and the World Bank.
As to the report, on the sidelines of the TICAD 7, the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the African Union (AU), together with numerous additional partners, has launched a new project «Flagship Initiative to Accelerate Youth Employment within Agriculture and Agribusiness within Africa».
It is to be admitted, Africa has the world youngest population, with more than 600 million young people on the labour market.
It is to be noted, based on the principles of South-South and Triangular Cooperation, the Flagship Initiative aims to enhance the business ecosystem by creating more jobs and opportunities for African youth. Its main focus is to provide technical assistance, capacity development and knowledge exchange to youth enterprises by prioritizing agricultural value chains. As such, responsible agricultural investment to develop rural areas and reduce urban-rural disparity through public-private partnerships is fundamental.
«When we talk about the potential of human capital within Africa, we are particularly referring to young people. African agribusinesses are expected to create a market worth US$1 trillion by 2030, so agriculture and agribusiness have an invaluable and untapped potential to address the youth unemployment challenge,» FAO Director-General Qu Dongyu has stressed while commenting on the Flagship Initiative launching.
