Brazil weak rains can cause 2019/20 global sugar shortage
08.01.2019 23:41 "Agro Perspectiva" (Kyiv) —
As of now, the rainfalls are getting still less frequent within Brazil, what has already affected the country soybeans crop, Ukrainian National Association of Sugar Producers says referring to the Reuters report.
As to the report, the moisture deficit has also made a negative impact upon the domestic cane sugar crop (it is to be admitted, within this year the Brazil cane sugar, due to the aging process, has become more sensitive to the weather changes).
«Nov 2018 has been a good month as for the rains, but Dec 2018 has not been as good,» INTL FCStone Consuling Group sugar/ethanol expert, Bruno Lima, admits.
As to him, it is so far too early to determine the rain deficit influence upon the domestic cane sugar crop, yet the producers are already somewhat worried with the current situation.
As to him, if this year Jan remains dry, the country cane sugar crop will undergo still stronger danger.
As to Bruno Lima, if the drought remains within the Brazilian south-central region, the Brazil sugar total output will start go down still faster what, in turn, will make an impact upon the global sugar prices.
