Vinnytsia region walnut trees irrigated area to exceed 700 ha

As of now, Vinnytsia region agrarians have planted walnut trees saplings at total area of 710 ha (with some parts of the total area to be irrigated), Interfax-Ukraine says referring the Vinnytsia Regional State Administration report.
As to the report, the walnut trees saplings are of foreign breeds.
«The irrigation system located on the territories of Yaryshivska and Kreminska village councils is being restored within the framework of the project. For that, design and estimate documentation worth UAH240,000 has been developed. The irrigation system restoration cost will exceed UAH 4 million.
Water pumping stations, electricity lines, transformer substations and irrigation main lines have been already restored. Over 2 km of the new internal irrigation system has been already created. The irrigation will be carried out on the 710 ha area,» the report reads.
As to the report, the project is implemented by LLC Ukrainian Walnut within the framework of the investment project launched within 2015 for growing walnuts on the 970 ha area.
«Every year over 100 ,000 tons of walnuts are harvested within Ukraine, of which 6,000 tons are harvested within Vinnytsia region, with two-thirds of the Vinnytsia region walnut crop being exported,» Valeriy Koroviy, Head of the Vinnytsia Regional Administration, admits.
As to the report, the area of the Vinnytsia region walnut gardens now exceeds 2,000 ha, of which 1,000 ha are within the fruiting age. As of last year, their last year yield had reached 60 metric centners per ha.
