Belarus to start sugar shipments to China
02.05.2018 22:57 "Agro Perspectiva" (Kyiv) —
As to Alexander Zabello, Belgospischeprom Concern Head, Belgospischeprom is going to start exporting sugar to China this year, Belarus Radio says referring to the BelTA report.
«China produces significantly less sugar than it consumes. The volume of this country import is calculated within millions of tons. We set ourselves the task this year to bring the Belarusian sugar on the Chinese market,» Zabello admitted.
As to him, now there is a surplus of sugar on the world market. Due to the results of the 2017 sugar output year, within Ukraine, Belarus and RF surplus of white sugar amounted to over 1.5 million tons - what has led to the sugar prices 40% drop and put the sugar industry within the EAEC countries into a difficult position. Another reason for the prices’ fall on the markets of the CIS countries was the lack of space for the sugar storage. So, today Kyrgyzstan provides one-time storage of only 45% of its sugar volumes, RF - 50%, Kazakhstan - 60%, Ukraine - 80%, Belarus and Moldova - 100%.
It is to be admitted, Belarus 2017 sugar beet crop was 650,000 tons (a record high for the country sugar beet branch).
