06.04.2018 14:17 "Agro Perspectiva" (Kyiv) —
This year Mar global foods prices have grown to 172.8 points, up 1.1% against this year Feb, UN Radio says referring to the FAO report.
As to the report, global foods prices are growing for the second consecutive month already.
Reportedly, the growth was driven by significant boost of the grains prices (up 2.7% against this year Feb, to 165.6 points) and dairy products (up 3.3% against this year Feb, to 197.4 points).
As to the report, wheat prices have grown mostly on weather worries (incl. US prolonged dryness and some European countries cold wet weather). Besides, maize prices have grown to due to global high demand and maize crop prospects’ worsening within Argentina.
As to FAO experts forecast, this year global maize/wheat output can decline. Thus, wheat output is expected to decline to 750 million tonnes (about 1% below its near-record level of the previous year).
It is to be reminded, within 2017, worldwide grains output, including wheat, hit a record level - about 2.646 million tons, up 33 million tons against 2016.
