PM: innovations support will enable economy model change

As of yesterday, while speaking within the International Mayors Summit, dedicated to municipal innovation development, in Kyiv, Ukrainian Prime Minister Volodymyr Groisman said that introduced by the Government policy of supporting the Ukrainian innovation and technological modernization will afford the country to achieve its strategic goal - that is, to change the model of the economy from that based on raw materials and to switch from constant «patching holes» to system development and the production of final product with high added value, Government Portal reports.
As to the report, he reminded that several institutions are operating within Ukraine with the purpose of creating a system of innovative support - the Innovation Support Council, Investment Support and Export Promotion Offices, and the Startup Support Fund (to be launched the next year).
«We are committed to modernizing, leveraging investment, creating new jobs, launching new businesses,» Groisman admitted.
He emphasized that innovation development is the key to the implementation of universal ideas, among which achieving complete energy independence, energy efficiency and industry rehabilitation.
«I believe in a democratic Ukraine with strong economy. We must abandon a model of economy basing on raw materials being a supplier for other economies, we should cease being a country exporting raw materials alone. It is crucial for us, through support of innovations, to change the model of the economy, to produce a competitive product, to enter the markets of other countries and to build up our home,» Groisman stressed.
